Coffee borrows tomorrow's energy. Cacao gives you today's.
Caffeine hits the nervous system fast, and it leaves fast. Cacao's main stimulant is theobromine, which works more on circulation, and the bean's natural fat slows how quickly it all arrives. You feel it in the body as much as the mind.
Feelings of Warmth
Theobromine opens the blood vessels instead of jolting the nervous system. Most people feel it as a warmth in the chest that spreads out from there.
A long, even plateau.
Cacao butter carries the compounds and slows their release, so the focus feels clear and grounded for most of a working day.
It leaves as gently as it came.
No crash to chase with a second cup, and your evening stays calm
Paste or ground
Both are the whole bean, full-fat, 54% cacao butter. The only real difference is how you like to make your cup.
What the cup is doing
Ceremonial cacao is the whole bean, ground, with its fat left in. That's why it works the way it does.
Theobromine.
Cacao's main stimulant works more on circulation than the nervous system: a slower rise, a longer arc and a softer landing.
Magnesium.
The mineral that settles muscle and nerve. It's the calm underneath the energy.
Flavanols.
Plant compounds that support healthy blood flow. Clarity without the edge.
54% cacao butter.
The fat carries the compounds and slows their release. We never defat.

Ceremonial cacao, compared
Depends on the brand. We publish our test results so you don't have to take our word for it.
A simple ritual
Paste or ground, the method is the same. Make it with attention, and that's the ceremony.
Measure
About 2 tablespoons (20 g).
Two heaping tablespoons of ground, or a chunk of paste about the size of your thumb.
Pour
6 to 8 oz, just off the boil.
Hot water for the purest cup, or a plant milk for something rounder.
Froth
Ten seconds.
An electric frother is easiest. Add a pinch of cinnamon or a little maple if you like.

FAQ
Does ceremonial cacao have caffeine?
A little, far less than coffee. One cup has roughly a third of the caffeine of a cup of coffee. Cacao's main stimulant is theobromine, and the bean's natural fat slows how fast anything is absorbed, so the lift is gentler and longer.
Can it replace my coffee?
Lots of people swap it fully, and others keep coffee as an occasional treat. Try swapping your second cup first, then the first. If you're sensitive to stimulants, start with a half serving and drink it before 2pm.
Isn't this just cocoa powder?
No. Cocoa powder has most of its cacao butter pressed out. Ours is the whole bean with all 54% of its butter left in, so it melts into hot water and carries the minerals and theobromine with it.
